JKS: My life is my own. Why do I have to let people see? I am already presenting a lot of myself on television, I’m not a reclusive actor. Finding out where my house is, who I am meeting and actions such as these, either the person is sick or has too much possessive desire.

» The higher popularity is, the more private life is lacking.

JKS: I don’t want to wear a mask in my actions, so I use twitter for easy communication. I’m a publicly acknowledged artiste, but I only want to be an artiste, that kind of artiste who can walk on the street and buy some new year’s cake to eat. However, even if I’m merely expressing my own opinion, people don’t like it. When I’m criticizing others, I would have reflected on myself first, I don’t act without thinking, I know what I’m doing.

» You became Keun-sama after Yong-sama, why are you so popular in Japan? 

JKS: It should be Keun-chan. My age now is not enough to be addressed as ‘sama’. I don’t know why I’m popular, maybe it’s because never before has there been such expressive love. In Japan after saying (tantalizing) words “I like girls who look good in miniskirt”, fans turned up the next day at the concert wearing miniskirt. If I said this in Korea, I would be severely criticized. This is not communication, right? If I do blindly what others want me to do, what is the difference (between me) and the cans coming out from the vending machine?

» Have you confirmed your next movie?

JKS: No matter how good the script is, I won’t be satisfied. In the past 1.5 year, I didn’t even have 3 rest days in a month, otherwise why would I give my managers a 20% salary increase? I want to rest now.

» What do you want to do during your rest?

JKS: I want to travel. I want to go for a stroll in villages I have not been to before. Moon Geun-young is now in New York, ah I’m so envious of her, living a life in an unhurried and strong manner.

» How did you feel when you were criticized by netizens as “ho-sei (pretentious) Keun-suk”?

JKS: At that time, I didn’t understand why they attacked me. I was very surprised and felt wronged. With the passing of time and now that I look back, anyone would have felt I was pretentious. Maybe I just wanted to shake off the sense of inferiority from my child actor background and pretended to be great, pretended to be dashing, pretended to be strong.

» As a Hallyu star, you should have earned a lot, right.

JKS: I don’t know how much money entered my bank account. After news reports stated that I earned 400 billion yen in Japan, I received a lot of collaborative proposals. Two pretty boys, Song Joong Ki and Jang Keun Suk face off on the 10th.

Song Joong Ki’s movie Many A Little Romance and Jang Keun Suk’s You Are My Pet in which he kisses with Kim Ha Neul both open on the same day. Both movies are romantic comedy aimed at female audiences and it’s questioning which movie will take the lead.

Many A Little Romance talks about a man without a job being 50 won short in buying a condom. He, therefore, is suppressed from having an affair with a woman. There appears another woman who bets her life over an empty bottle to earn gain 50 won. These two characters get together by chance and try to earn some money together. It is said that Song did a good job on featuring his frivolous character in a lovely way.

Also, Song’s many different facial expressions are expected to be seen on the film, like a set of presents for his fans. On the 6th, he has already appealed to female fans by appearing on KBS 2’s Gag Concert.

On the other hand, Jang Keun Suk has copy-and-pasted his original character to You Are My Pet. The original work of the movie is based on a Japanese comic book in which a woman raises a pretty, young guy as her pet. This basic storyline alone gives some sort of fantasy to female fans. Jang plays the lovely pet which always tries to please its owner.

Both movies seem highly dependable on their male characters.

Many A Little Romance is Song’s first movie appearing as a leading character after making a big hit through the TV series Sungkyunkwan Scandal and The Deep Rooted Tree. Recently, he appeals with his unique “Puing Puing” gesture. Basically, the movie and its female leading character fell for Song’s charms.

You Are My Pet shows three different sides of Jang: he sings, dances, and entertains us. The movie features some “sweet” scenes as if adding two big spoons of syrup with chocolate topping to a caramel macchiato. There is a kissing scene with Kim Ha Neul at the end of the movie, and this scene is expected to appeal its female fans. Because a popular Korean Wave star plays in it, You Are My Pet is to be opened on a large scale at the beginning of next year in Japan.

However, the two movies differ at some points.

Many A Little Romance is produced with a budget less than 1 billion won, which is a third of what You Are My Pet has spent.Han Ye Seul and Kim Ha Neul are recognized as the queens of romantic comedy while Song and Jang are known to be rookies, but rising stars.

It is questioning on which movie the majority of female audience would prefer. But things can change; a Hollywood movie, Immortals, could take the lead for it is made by producers from the movie 300. Wandeukiis another movie that could challenge the two movies for it has been no.1 in box office for three weeks in a row.

Anticipation builds as we wonder about which film will be taking the lead in the box office and its new rankings.

On the evening of November 2, the VIP premiere of “You’re My Pet” was held at the Lotte Cinema in Jayang-dong, Seoul. 

A variety of top stars attended this premiere to support and cheer for their fellow actresses and actors in this film including: Yoo Seung Ho, SS501’s Kim Hyung Jun, After School’s Jung Ah, Park Shin Hye, Jang Hyuk, Choi Ji Woo, Choi Kang Hee, Kang Ye Won, Kim Seung Woo, Hong Soo Ah, Go Na Eun and more. The film’s leads, Jang Keun Suk and Kim Ha Neul looked very happy and excited for this grand event.

“You’re My Pet” is based on a Japanese manga and is about Ji Eun (played by Kim Ha Neul), a woman who has everything in terms of power and beauty but lacks social skills and In Ho (played by Jang Geun Suk), a younger man who was always popular with the ladies in the past. In Ho becomes Ji Eun’s “pet” and the story unravels as they get to know each other and build their relationship. 

“You’re My Pet” will open in theaters on November 10.

Jang Keun Suk recently but indirectly mentioned the rumor about his conflicts with the PD of the new upcoming drama “Love Rides the Rain”.

The Korean Men’s Association has filed a petition for an injunction against the film, “You’re My Pet.”

The Korean Men’s Association posted a link on their homepage to a legal petition that will force “You’re My Pet” to cease from playing in theaters. They voiced that the film is degrading to men and the concept of a female “owner” and a male “dog” is sexist and inhumane. They also emphasize their point by asking how people would react if the role was reversed and it was a male owner and a female dog. They ended the note by saying that these kinds of concepts should not be treaded upon, even if it is for entertainment. 

“You’re My Pet” is expected to hit theaters on November 10 and the VIP premiere was held on November 1. You can read more about the synopsis here. 

Sources from the film addressed this matter by saying, “We haven’t fully looked into this as of right now. After a thorough investigation, we will search for a countermeasuring plan.”

Actor Jang Keun Suk recently said that Kim Ha Neul, who shot the movie You’re My Pet with Jang, treats him like a pet in real life as well.
